- Our Space | EMERGE CENTER
EMERGE has two offices in Davis on Oak Avenue across from Davis High. Our space was developed by local designer Diana Mahoney to be lively, welcoming and youth friendly. EMERGE also offers in-person services in Vacaville, CA. OUR SPACE When therapists talk about creating a safe and welcoming space for clients, they are speaking metaphorically. We think a safe and welcoming space though is not just a metaphor, but a place where clients feel comfortable doing the challenging work of therapy. At EMERGE, most of our work is in-person, so it is important that our offices are inviting, soothing and comfortable for our clients and staff. The EMERGE building at 1621 Oak is our main site, with a suite of six offices and comfortable waiting room. Next door at 1627 Oak, the EMERGE Annex is a suite of two offices that was redesigned in 2026 to create a lively and engaging environment for children, teens and adults. Therapy Rooms at 1621 Oak Waiting Room at 1621 Oak Group Room at 1621 Oak Independent Practices at 1621 Oak The EMERGE building at 1621 Oak is an ideal space for therapists to work, connect and collaborate. Originally designed by the Davis Center for Psychotherapy (DCP), it includes five private offices, a large group room, waiting room, staff break room and staff bathroom. In addition to housing EMERGE staff, we are happy to share space with 15 independent mental health practitioners who are partners, friends and collaborators. These include: Martha Gilmore, PhD Louise Walker, PhD, LMFT Susan Cohen Byrne, LMFT Judith Watt, MD Nina Sreshta, MD Linda Hendricks, LMFT John Jervis, LMFT Dennett Hanssmann, MD Mary Diaso Rudy, LCSW Bethany Smith, LCSW Bethany Coburn, LCSW Cathy Tran, LCSW Kristina Schwerin, MD David Mendelmar, LCSW Rebecca Sawyer, LMFT e ·ລວມເຂົ້າກັນ / əˈmərj / ຄຳ ກິລິຍາ ເພື່ອແຍກອອກຈາກໄຂ່, ໝາກ ພ້າວຫຼືເປືອກ

- Parenting | EMERGE CENTER
EMERGE offers Parent Groups and Coaching to support parents in navigating the challenges of raising children. Our services provide practical guidance, connection, and strategies for handling parenting issues, including screen addiction, perfectionism, and blending parenting styles. Parent Groups Raising children can be challenging, overwhelming, and deeply rewarding; often all at once. Parents are constantly learning, adjusting, and doing their best with the tools they have. Our parent groups are designed to offer support, practical guidance, and a sense of connection so you don’t have to navigate parenting alone. To help, we offer several services: Find support, build skills, and navigate parenting with confidence. Join Now Parent Coaching EMERGE offers coaching designed to empower parents by helping them identify their parenting goals, develop skills and effectively address challenging parenting issues. Different from therapy, coaching focuses on working only with parents and offering more direct feedback and problem-solving. It can range from a single session consult to an ongoing coaching relationship throughout the parenting years. For more information, contact us . The following trainings for parents were conducted for the DJUSD Parent Empowerment Program and can be accessed via the DJUSD website (link below). Parent Training SCREEN ADDICTIONS DJUSD Parent Empowerment Program December 2024 For many children and teens, screen use can mimic patterns of drug addiction and create difficulties associated with addictions, such as lying, stealing, pleading, threatening and erupting in anger. When parents attempt to limit screen use, they may face enormous challenges with no easy answers. This PEP Talk discussed the growing prevalence of screen addictions and strategies parents can use to address these issues and live more harmoniously. Watch PERFECTIONISM IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS DJUSD Parent Empowerment Program October 2024 Perfectionism can be a force for success and achievement, but it can also lead to high stress levels, strained relationships and burnout. Characterized by unrealistic standards and harsh inner criticism, perfectionism contributes to many psychological conditions, including depression, anxiety, self-harm and eating disorders. Often starting in childhood, perfectionism appears to be on the rise in the United States. This workshop covered what perfectionism is, how it can sabatoge success and what parents can do to help their perfectionistic children. Watch BLENDING MODERN AND TRADITIONAL PARENTING DJUSD Parent Empowerment Program May 2024 Modern parenting is a relatively recent development that is marked by a child-centered, emotion-focused and process-oriented approach. Traditional parenting has a long legacy and is family-centered, behavior-focused and responsibility-oriented. This workshop explored the benefits and challenges of both approaches and discuss strategies for blending these two styles of parenting. Watch
- Our Process | EMERGE CENTER
Learn about EMERGE’s therapy process, from the initial phone call to ongoing sessions and ending therapy. We provide a thorough assessment, tailored treatment options, and regular check-ins to ensure your concerns are met. Therapy is collaborative and flexible, designed to support your goals. Our Process First Contact Whether our first contact is by email, phone or text, we will arrange some time to talk with you to better understand your needs. We will discuss treatment options and whether we have a therapist that is a good fit for you. If not, we are happy to recommend other providers. Assessment Session(s) The first 1-3 sessions are the assessment phase of therapy. We gather as much information as possible about your concerns, their history and what you have tried to address them. During this process, we will discuss our impressions of your situation and recommend a course of treatment and/or action. While it is hard to predict how treatment progress because there are so many variables, we will give you some idea of what to expect going forward. Ongoing Process and Feedback Assuming that your treatment involves ongoing sessions, the therapist will check in with you frequently to ensure that your concerns are being met. Discussing the process of therapy with you directly is not only good customer service, it is an essential ingredient of good therapy. Ending Therapy While it is your decision alone to end therapy, it is useful to discuss this openly as part of the therapeutic process for several reasons: If there are any concerns about your therapy, we may be able to address them The process of ending is a way to review progress on your goals and plan for the future Being thoughtful about ending can help us think about other options for your continued growth While therapy can go on indefinitely as a personal growth process, this should be a well thought out choice after specific areas of concern have been addressed.
- Insurance | EMERGE CENTER
At EMERGE, we don’t accept insurance directly to prioritize quality care, flexibility, and transparency. We do offer various affordable therapy options, including: reduced fees and EAP programs. We can also provide out-of-network reimbursement statements. ການເປີດວຽກ At the present time, we do not accept any insurance directly. If you would like a statement to send to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement, please let your therapist know. You are responsible for checking your insurance to see if it covers your therapist and therapy. Please be aware that associate therapists are often not covered by insurance. Why We Don’t Accept Health Insurance While we understand it can be difficult to find a mental health provider through insurance, we are sadly unable to accept it. There are many reason for this and we have attempted to explain them below: 1. Administrative Burdens Accepting insurance involves a significant amount of time on administrative work rather than on patient care. Navigating pre-authorization requirements, handling claims, and dealing with reimbursement delays require extensive documentation and frequent communication with insurance companies. Opting out of insurance networks reduces these administrative demands, allowing us to allocate more time and focus to client care. 2. Control Over Treatment In-network insurance companies often dictate certain aspects of care, including types of treatment covered, frequency of sessions, and duration of coverage. This can limit our ability to fully customize treatment plans to each clients needs. Opting out of insurance networks allows us more flexibilty in choosing the treatment approach that best suits each patient’s goals and timelines, leading to a more personalized and effective care experience. 3. Sustainable Economics Insurance reimbursement rates for mental health providers tend to be significantly lower compared to other medical specialties. Many therapists find that the rates offered by insurance companies do not align with the overhead and resources necessary to maintain a high-quality practice. Operating outside of insurance networks can create a more sustainable business model, allowing us to provide a high standard of care without the financial strain. 4. Improved Quality of Care Seeing fewer patients and spending more time with each one often leads to higher quality interactions. By not accepting insurance, we can schedule fewer clients and improve our focus on our clients. We can also schedule longer or more frequent sessions without being restricted by insurance billing codes or pressured to meet high quotas. 5. Transparency in Pricing Insurance billing can sometimes be complex and opaque, leading to unexpected costs or “surprise bills” for patients. Opting out of insurance networks allows us to offer straightforward, transparent pricing where patients know exactly what they’re paying for. This upfront pricing can foster a stronger, trust-based relationship, as both parties are clear on financial terms from the beginning. 6. Privacy Concerns Privacy concerns are particularly relevant in mental health care. When using insurance, mental health treatment often requires a formal diagnosis that goes on the patient’s medical record. Insurance companies may review records and demand changes to treatment based on limited information. Opting out of insurance allows us to maintain a higher level of privacy for patients who may be uncomfortable sharing details of their treatment with insurers. Conclusion: A Patient-Centered Approach, Not a Public Health Solution While there are many reasons we don’t accept insurance, we realize it can create barriers to care for many patients. The initial out-of-pocket costs may be prohibitive, limiting access for individuals who cannot afford private pay services. This can exacerbate disparities in mental health care, as those without financial resources or adequate insurance coverage may struggle to receive necessary treatment. Additionally, navigating reimbursement through out-of-network benefits can be complex and burdensome for patients. While our hope is for a broad based, public health solution to this issue, it is unfortunately too complex and difficult for us to take on as a small mental health practice. However, we have attempted to make therapy more affordable through the following: • Hiring therapists at varying experience levels that charge different rates. • Offered reduced fee services whenever possible. • Accepting payments through the EAP program for DJUSD and YCOE. • Providing a variety of therapy and support groups. • Providing pro-bono group therapy to adolescent Medi-Cal recipients. • Offer free workshops and groups at various times throughout the year. • Providing reduced fees for group therapy. If you are interested in learning more about this issue, here is a story on NPR of why some therapists have left insurance as they face many of the same issues as we do. e ·ລວມເຂົ້າກັນ / əˈmərj / ຄຳ ກິລິຍາ ທີ່ຈະກາຍເປັນປາກົດຂື້ນ, ທີ່ສໍາຄັນຫຼືເປັນຄູຊັດເຈນ

The EMERGE Performance and Sport Psychology program is focused on helping students understand and utilize decades of clinical research and knowledge around what it takes to perform at a peak level in any area of performance, including academics, sports, dance, drama and life. PERFORMANCE and SPORT PSYCHOLOGY The “mental game” is increasingly recognized as central to elite performance in both sports and life. While performance and sport psychology is highly utilized in college athletics and professional life, it gets little attention in high school where the need is just as great. The EMERGE Performance and Sport Psychology program is focused on helping students understand and utilize decades of clinical research and knowledge around what it takes to perform at a peak level in any area of performance, including academics, sports, dance, drama and life. We are currently developing curriculum for SportPsych 101 and 201, six-week psychoeducational classes for high school athletes. We also hope to develop a Performance Psychology class based on the same core material. Currently, we offer individual performance coaching and therapy to help students work on specific issues of concern.
